Accountant

Job Summary

The General Accountant (or Senior Accounts Accountant) is responsible for reviewing, verifying, and executing core accounting operations, including general ledger analysis, journal entries, accounts receivable and payable reconciliations, bank reconciliations, inventory valuation matching, and payroll oversight. The role ensures financial accuracy, supports internal and external audits, and maintains robust accounting controls.

Key Responsibilities

• Ledger & Journal Verification: Check, verify, and code journal entries and ledger postings prepared by general accountants; analyze ledger balances to identify abnormal entries and pass adjusting journal entries.
• Reconciliations: Perform regular reconciliations of accounts receivable, accounts payable, bank accounts, and physical stock values/goods in transit against management accounts.
• Payroll & Compliance Oversight: Verify that payroll deduction data is well-organized, ensure monthly payrolls are prepared accurately and on time, and oversee weekly data backup verification.
• Audit & Financial Support: Compile year-end adjustment data and provide explanations and documentation during internal and external audits.
• Debtor & Creditor Analysis: Analyze aging schedules for debtors and creditors and prepare comprehensive monthly activity reports.

Educational Qualification & Experience Requirements

• Education: MA or BA Degree in Accounting, Accounting and Finance, or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum of 4 years of relevant professional accounting experience.
• Additional Advantage: Proficiency in various accounting software applications is a strong plus.
