The Senior Quantity Surveyor is responsible for cost management, bill of quantities (BOQ) preparation, valuation, and contract administration across complex building and infrastructure projects. The role involves analyzing tender and design documents, measuring works on-site, performing arithmetic checks, valuing completed project stages, and processing progress payment applications in line with standard Ethiopian building contract conditions.
Key Responsibilities1. Estimation, BOQ & Tender Analysis
Analyze bid and tender documents in detail according to engineering plans, architectural drawings, and technical specifications.
Prepare accurate, comprehensive Bills of Quantities (BOQ) for complex building and civil engineering works.
Perform arithmetic verification and cost checks on bid documents and sub-contractor proposals.
Formulate clear technical and material specifications for project deliverables.
2. Measurement, Valuation & Payment Certification
Conduct physical site measurements and verify work progress against contract drawings.
Value completed work packages and prepare interim payment certificates (IPCs) and final accounts for approval.
Maintain complete quantity surveying logs, field measurement sheets, and historical cost data.
3. Contract Administration
Interpret and enforce standard building and civil engineering contract conditions in daily operations.
Carry out cost control, variance tracking, and related quantity surveying duties assigned by project management.
Educational Background:
Option 1: B.Sc. Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Technology & Management (COTM), or a related discipline from an accredited university.
Option 2: Level V TVET Diploma in Building Technology, Construction Management, or related field.
Work Experience: 4 to 6 years of direct professional experience in quantity surveying within the construction sector.
Core Skills: Quantity surveying, takeoff measurement, BOQ preparation, valuation, and cost management.
Technical Knowledge: Strong foundation in Civil Engineering / COTM principles, building contract standards, and specification drafting.
