Senior Architect

The Senior Architect serves within the Engineering Office at the Addis Ababa Head Office. This position is responsible for reviewing and producing complex architectural designs, coordinating multi-disciplinary engineering plans, mentoring junior design staff, ensuring compliance with building codes and safety regulations, and collaborating directly with clients, subcontractors, and construction site teams to bring architectural projects to realization.

1. Architectural Design, Review & Quality Assurance

• Review, refine, and produce detailed architectural and engineering drawings and technical specifications.

• Research building materials, innovative design technologies, sustainable architectural methods, and local building standards.

• Ensure all architectural designs comply with municipal building regulations, health and safety codes, and environmental laws.

2. Supervisory, Mentorship & Subcontractor Coordination

• Direct, monitor, and evaluate the output of staff architects; schedule technical workshops and peer design reviews.

• Mentor junior architects to improve their technical modeling, presentation, and design capabilities.

• Provide technical design interpretations and guidance to site engineers, general contractors, plumbers, electricians, and specialized sub-trades.

3. Client Liaison, Collaboration & Project Management

• Consult with clients to capture project briefs, resolve design queries promptly, and align project delivery with client expectations.

• Lead cross-functional design teams to hit project milestones within designated timeframes.

• Network with external engineering consultants, urban planners, and regulatory bodies.

• Educational Background: BSc Degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, or a closely related field.

• Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of total professional experience, OR

  • Minimum of 4 years of specific experience in a Senior Architect / Lead Design role.

• Domain Expertise: Advanced proficiency in architectural drafting, 3D modeling/rendering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, ArchiCAD, 3ds Max, SketchUp), and building code interpretation.

• Core Skills: Strong team leadership, client communication, cross-disciplinary technical coordination, ability to work under tight deadlines, and structured problem-solving under pressure.
