Sanitary Engineer

Job Summary

The Sanitary Engineer works within the Engineering Office at the Addis Ababa Head Office, specializing in water supply, drainage, waste management, and plumbing infrastructure across real estate developments. This role is responsible for designing wastewater treatment systems, overseeing plumbing and sanitation construction, conducting environmental impact assessments, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards, and supervising site installations.

1. Sanitation & Wastewater Infrastructure Design

• Design wastewater treatment plants, stormwater drainage networks, building plumbing systems, and waste disposal facilities.

• Develop plans for solid waste management, recycling systems, and effluent treatment across real estate sites.

• Conduct field surveys, technical feasibility studies, and environmental impact assessments for new real estate projects.

2. Construction Supervision & Technical Quality Control

• Supervise contractors and site technicians during the installation and maintenance of sanitary infrastructure and plumbing systems.

• Inspect materials, pipe networks, and equipment to ensure alignment with design specifications and engineering codes.

• Formulate strategies to upgrade, optimize, or troubleshoot existing water supply and waste disposal systems.

3. Regulatory Compliance & Environmental Reporting

• Ensure strict compliance with national environmental protection laws, municipal health regulations, and sanitary standards.

• Collaborate with local public health authorities and regulatory inspectors regarding sanitation approvals and environmental clearances.

• Prepare technical reports, design documentation, material bills of quantities (BOQ), and emergency response protocols for site sanitation issues.

• Educational Background: BSc Degree in Water Resources Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field.

• Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 years of overall professional experience, OR

  • Minimum of 6 years of specific experience in sanitary systems design, building plumbing, and wastewater management.

• Technical Expertise: Advanced understanding of hydraulic modeling, plumbing design, wastewater treatment technologies, environmental impact assessment (EIA), and AutoCAD/WaterCAD software.

• Core Skills: Ability to perform under tight deadlines, multi-disciplinary teamwork, clear technical documentation, and cross-departmental communication.
