Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant manages accounting operations, maintains financial integrity, and ensures complete compliance with local tax laws and accounting standards. The role oversees general ledger management, balance sheet reconciliations, month-end and year-end closing processes, tax filings, payroll, and assists with budgeting and operational financial analysis.

• Financial Reporting & General Ledger Operations: Maintain accurate general ledger accounts, prepare journal entries, perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations, manage close processes, and prepare comprehensive financial statements.
• Tax Compliance & Statutory Filings: Prepare, review, and file statutory tax returns (VAT, Withholding Tax, Payroll Tax, Income Tax) under Ethiopian tax laws, monitor regulatory changes, and interface with revenue authorities and banks.
• Internal Controls & Audit Facilitation: Implement and enforce strict internal financial controls to safeguard company assets, and coordinate annual internal/external financial audits.
• Payroll & Operational Accounts: Process employee payroll (ensuring correct deductions, site allowances, and tax withholdings), monitor A/P and A/R, vendor invoicing, cash flows, and oversee site expense reconciliations and petty cash.
• Budgeting & Financial Analysis: Assist in preparing annual budgets, operational forecasts, and variance analysis reports while identifying cost-saving opportunities and process improvements.

• Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (BA). (Professional certifications such as ACCA, CPA, or CMA are preferred).
• Work Experience: Minimum of 4 to 6 years of progressive professional accounting experience. (Experience in mining, manufacturing, heavy industry, or multi-site operations is a strong advantage).

• Technical Skills: Hands-on proficiency with accounting software (Peachtree, ERP systems), advanced Microsoft Excel, and a thorough understanding of Ethiopian tax regulations and reporting procedures.
• Soft Skills: High attention to detail, strong analytical capabilities, ethical judgment, and strong written/verbal communication skills.
