Communication Specialist

Job Summary

The Communications and PR Officer for the Peacebuilding & Conflict Prevention and Governance Clusters establishes trusted partnerships across regional and continental GIZ projects. Operating within the GIZ AU Portfolio in Addis Ababa under a contract running through October 2028, the role serves as the central liaison for digital communication, impact storytelling, social media management, and external agency coordination.

Key Responsibilities

• Establish trustful relationships with regional and continental projects across the Peacebuilding & Conflict Prevention and Governance clusters, including AUC secondees.
• Act as the primary focal point for the GIZ AU Service Unit Communication.
• Research, write, and produce compelling impact stories tailored to diverse institutional audiences.
• Create and schedule regular, professional social media content across platforms such as LinkedIn and Instagram.
• Advise projects on digital communication strategies, innovative communication formats, and adherence to GIZ corporate design and compliance rules.
• Serve as liaison officer to external service providers and manage contracts with communication agencies.
• Participate in results-based communication, monitoring, reporting, and office-wide information-sharing initiatives.

Educational Qualification & Experience Requirements

• Education: University degree (minimum Bachelor's degree with relevant work experience) in Media Communication, Journalism, or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in journalism or public relations, with demonstrated expertise in crafting impact stories, navigating politically sensitive issues, and managing external communication agencies.

Required Skills & Competencies

• Active usage and strategic management of social media platforms for professional institutional communication.
• Excellent command of written and spoken English (mastery of another AU official language is a strong asset).
• Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) is a distinct advantage.
