In English: most assistants answer from general training, and get Ethiopian detail wrong. Bini searches an indexed library of Ethiopian documents on every question, reads the passage that matches, and answers from it — so the answer has a source you can open.

In English: the big assistants write fluent Amharic, and we do not compete on that. The difference is not language skill, it is where the answer comes from. Asked about Ethiopia they answer from memory. Bini reads a document first.

🔬 The test: 10 September 2026, six questions in Amharic and Afaan Oromoo. The general assistant was Gemini 2.5 Flash through the API with no retrieval. We did not benchmark Claude or ChatGPT, so we publish no result for them. The structural point is the same for any of them: none holds an index of Ethiopian government documents. 🙋 Bini's own miss in the same run: it answered one Afaan Oromoo question in English. Afaan Oromoo is newer for us and we are still improving it.

In English: anyone can say they have AI. We measure instead. A 114-question Amharic benchmark, each with a known correct page. On BinaSmart's own guides the right page is in the top three 91.7% of the time. On crawled news and ministry sites it is lower, and we say that too. The benchmark is re-run whenever the model or the corpus changes.

We searched and could not find another public Amharic assistant that answers from an indexed library of Ethiopian law and government-service documents. Others exist as general chat assistants. If we are wrong we will happily update this page.
