The Pastry Chef prepares a wide variety of high-quality pastries, cakes, desserts, breads, and baked goods while maintaining exceptional standards of food safety, hygiene, and presentation. Operating within a remote camp and mining environment, the role ensures the pastry section runs efficiently to support daily dining and special catering functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Baking & Production: Prepare diverse pastries, cakes, breads, desserts, and cookies according to approved recipes, ensuring consistent taste, texture, and visual presentation.
- Kitchen Hygiene & Safety: Maintain strict cleanliness standards for the pastry section, properly store and label ingredients, and enforce food safety, sanitation, and HACCP protocols.
- Inventory & Waste Control: Monitor stock levels of baking supplies, manage portion control, minimize food waste, and report shortages or equipment defects promptly.
- Team Support & Collaboration: Work closely with the Executive and Sous Chefs, assist with menu planning, and support the training of junior kitchen staff and local personnel.
Educational Qualification & Experience Requirements
- Education: Diploma or Certificate in Pastry, Bakery, Culinary Arts, Food Production, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience as a Pastry Chef, Baker, or Pastry Cook, preferably within hotels, restaurants, camps, or large-scale food service operations.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Comprehensive knowledge of baking techniques, pastry decoration, and ingredient handling.
- Strong organizational, time-management, and pressure-handling abilities in a busy kitchen environment.
