Senior Accountant

Job Summary

MELA FOR HER is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant (Finance Officer) to manage financial resources, transactions, inventory costing, and reporting. The role ensures full compliance with accounting standards, cost accounting principles, and Ethiopian tax regulations while supporting the organization's mission to transform women's and girls' lives.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform general accounting tasks, including reconciling balance sheet accounts, managing general ledger operations, and preparing monthly financial reports and account/bank reconciliations.
• Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable workflows, including invoicing, payments, and collections.
• Verify payment documentation completeness and ensure all expenses remain within assigned project budgets.
• Prepare payments, bank transfers, and facilitate banking transactions.
• Assist in preparing financial statements, budgets, financial analyses, and forecasting.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal policies, and Ethiopian tax regulations, including timely tax payments.
• Manage monthly payroll, process timely salary payments, and handle internal/external audit preparations.
• Track stock transactions in the system, plan and manage quarterly inventory counts, and report variances.
• Prepare monthly actual inventory costing and Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) reports.
• Collaborate across departments to provide financial guidance and support.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible finance or accounting experience, preferably within a business organization, manufacturing company, or social enterprise. Prior experience in the manufacturing sector and managing grant/donor-funded projects is highly desirable.
