Field Officer

Job Summary

Welthungerhilfe is seeking a Field Officer – Food and Market Systems to support the design, implementation, coordination, and monitoring of food and market systems development interventions in Borena. The role focuses on building inclusive, resilient, and climate-sensitive food systems, integrating gender-transformative approaches, and managing vital coordination with local government authorities, private sector actors, and community structures.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical Implementation: Support field-level implementation of food and market systems activities, map market constraints and actor relationships, and improve productivity, market linkages, and resilience for vulnerable households.
• Gender Transformation & Social Inclusion: Integrate gender-transformative approaches across all programming, analyze power relations and barriers, and strengthen women’s leadership, agency, and equitable economic participation.
• Stakeholder Coordination: Maintain constructive working relationships and regular coordination with woreda and zonal government offices (agriculture, livestock, trade, cooperatives) and local institutions to ensure alignment and sustainability.
• Community Engagement & Capacity Building: Facilitate training, workshops, and community sessions; strengthen the capacities of local partners, producer groups, cooperatives, and women’s networks using participatory approaches.
• Monitoring, Learning & Reporting: Conduct routine field monitoring against project indicators, collect qualitative data and success stories, flag implementation risks, and contribute to activity and donor reports.
• Compliance & Safeguarding: Ensure strict adherence to organizational policies, safeguarding standards, accountability principles, and do-no-harm approaches across all field activities.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, agricultural economics, rural development, development studies, economics, market systems development, food systems, gender studies, or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant professional experience in food systems, livelihoods, market systems development, or rural development, with proven experience integrating gender equality and social inclusion (experience in Borena, pastoralist, or dryland contexts is a strong advantage).
