Accountant

Job Summary

The Accountant manages operational financial duties, including financial reporting, data gathering, cash flow tracking, and the implementation of company-wide financial standards. Operating under the leadership of the Manager, General Account and Treasury and guidance of the Senior Accountant, the role handles voucher preparation, ledger entries, bank reconciliations, and fixed asset record-keeping.

Key Responsibilities

• Summarize company cash needs from monthly cash flow statements for director review and approval.
• Prepare payment vouchers and check books for authorized payments after source document verification.
• Review and process transactions to ensure proper journalizing, posting, and cost center allocation.
• Verify, analyze, and process monthly accounting documents received from branches.
• Undertake accounting data entry into computer systems and produce appropriate ledgers and trial balances.
• Prepare monthly bank reconciliation statements and process cash disbursements and receipts.
• Compile data for adjusting entries for accruals and prepayments, journalizing and posting to ledgers.
• Ensure subsidiary ledgers agree with related controlling accounts in the general ledger.
• Submit books of accounts and financial records for internal and external audit reviews.
• Maintain detailed fixed assets registers and control fund utilization within approved budgets.
• Perform regular data backups and ensure secure filing with designated managers.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, and track disbursements, incomes, repayments, arrears, and bad debts.

Educational Qualification & Experience Requirements

• Education: BSc, BA, Diploma, or Level 4 in Accounting and Finance (training in ERP, FMIS, and investment management tools is desirable).
• Experience: 2 to 4 years of relevant finance experience, with background in general accounts or investment within large entities involving trading, agricultural, or transport sectors considered advantageous.
